Recently, the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau announced that it had ordered General Information Services (GIS) and e-Background-checks.com to correct their practices with respect to background checks, provide $10.5 million in relief to harmed consumers, and pay a $2.5 million vicil penalty.
The CFPB found that GIS and e-Background-checks.com had included information in background checks that was not permitted to be in those checks, and they had failed to take basic steps required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act to ensure accuracy in background checks.
If you've had a background check run by GIS or e-background-checks.com and it contained inaccurate information, please contact the background check attorneys at The Weiner Law Firm LLC for a free consultation to learn your rights.
