Equifax, Experian & TransUnion

Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are known as the "Big Three" in the credit reporting industry.  These three companies are the largest consumer reporting agencies in the United States.  That means that they handle personal information for nearly every United States citizen.

As credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion must comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  The FCRA is a law that is designed to, among other things, protect consumer information from improper and erroneous distribution.  When a credit reporting agency reports information it is not allowed to report (for example, certain information after you have filed for and been discharged from bankruptcy) or when it reports information in error (for example, credit information on your credit report for someone other than you -, then it may have violated the FCRA.  The Big Three face hundreds of lawsuits each year in which consumers allege that these credit reporting agencies have reported inaccurate or unreportable information in their credit reports.

If you are having trouble with your credit report and you think that the credit reporting agency may have violated the FCRA, please contact the credit report attorneys at Weiner & Sand LLC for a consultation.
